Pavement Management Plan in Compton, California |
Street rehabilitation and road repairs |

Compton's pavement management plan is moving from long-range strategy to work on major routes and neighborhood streets.
Adopted by the City Council on September 3, 2024, the plan aims to improve travel conditions and extend pavement life.
Current street rehabilitation focuses on Alameda Street and several Walnut-area roads under the city's Phase 2C project.
The Public Works Engineering Department began paving both sides of Alameda Street in August 2026, from the northern city limit to the southern area near Gateway Towne Center.
Work started in September on Walnut Street between Central Avenue and Acacia Court, as well as Walnut Parkway and Walnut Park Drive.
Walnut Parkway's work runs between its cul-de-sacs, while the Walnut Park Drive portion links Walnut Parkway and Walnut Street.
Phase 2C is scheduled to continue through December 2026, with new street-name and regulatory signs planned for its final stage.
Approved in September 2026, Phase 2D of the annual residential street rehabilitation program is scheduled for November 2026 through May 2027.
Its scope goes beyond resurfacing: crews are expected to work on pavement foundations, sidewalks, curbs, driveway approaches, and curb ramps.
The project also includes striping, markings, traffic-signal loops, and adjustments to existing sewer and storm-drain manholes, water valves, and meters.
For residents, the practical test is whether repaired streets feel safer and easier to navigate once construction ends.
That includes people walking across a neighborhood intersection as well as drivers heading to work or running errands.
Another planned effort, Road Repair Services Project Phase X, is slated to begin in March 2027 across 40 street segments citywide.
It calls for pavement fixes, sewer-manhole adjustments, striping, speed humps, traffic loops, and new street-name signs.
Together, these projects shift the focus from isolated patches toward a more coordinated approach to Compton's roads.
Schedules can change, but the coming months should show how well that approach translates into smoother everyday trips. |
